History
Troms Offshore AS (formerly TFDS Offshore A/S) was established in Tromsoe in 1981. The company has more than 20 years of history associated with various categories of offshore-related activities, and is the only company in North Norway within this niche of the shipping industry. Good references from the big operators in this demanding maritime industry and a highly qualified organisation on shore and offshore have convinced the major players in the market that by choosing Troms Offshore, you have the professionals on your team.

Effective 1 January 2005, the company was sold to Managing Director Svein Hoel and Vice President Osten Mortvedt and renamed Troms Offshore.
Today, Troms Offshore A/S operates five AHTS vessels, two PSVs, one ROV/diving vessel (under construction), one diamond mining vessel, one polar research vessel, and one Coast Guard vessel.
For a brief description of the history of our fleet, we start with the ME 303 “Troms Tjeld”, a 12000 BHP AHTS bought in 1985 from an owner in the UK. The vessel was upgraded to meet the new requirements connected to winter operations in the Barents Sea, and operated in the Barents Region during all drilling campaigns in the early 1980s. The vessel was sold in 1990 to an owner in the UK and renamed “Oil Provider”.
The UT 716 M/V “Troms Skarven”, built at Ulstein Yard in 1986, is a multipurpose AHTS vessel with D/P equipment for tanker mooring and ROV handling. M/V “Troms Skarven” has been on contract to Statoil on the Gullfaks and Statfjord fields since delivery in 1986. The vessel was sold to Solstad in November 2004 and renamed “Normand Skarven”, and is still on the same contract to Statoil.
In 1992, the Russian-owned, 1984-built UT 708, 12000 BHP AHTS vessel “Aldoma” was added to our fleet on a long-term BB charter. After considerable upgrading, the vessel has been engaged on contracts to all major oil companies in the North Sea and the Far East during the past 12 years. Presently, the vessel is on a 3-year contract to ONGC in India.
In 1994, another Russian-owned vessel, the DSV “Sprut”, was added to our fleet on a long- term BB charter. The vessel was built in Finland in 1979, registered in the UK and named “Swan Ocean”. The former Soviet Union bought the vessel in 1982, and she was more or less laid up until we got her engines running again in 1994. After a major conversion in 1997, the vessel was renamed “Kovambo” and fixed on a long-term contract producing diamonds in Namibian waters.
In addition, the 1984 built UT 704 (AHTS) “Troms Tjeld” (ex Odin Viking) was bought in 1997 and fixed to Statoil on a long-term contract serving various fields in the North Sea. The Statoil contract was concluded in July 2003, and in May 2004, the vessel was fixed on a 3-year BB contract to a company in Dubai.

In November 1999, we added another 12000 BHP AHTS to our fleet when we bought the “Viking Titan” from Eidesvik & Co. The vessel was on a long-term contract to Norsk Hydro when we took over, continuing until 2004. The vessel vas sold to Solstad in November 2004 and renamed “Normand Titan”.
Taking delivery of the UT 755 “Troms Steggen” from the Brevik yard in September 2000 and the “Troms Falcon” in September 2001 was our first step into the PSV market. Both vessels were sold to Solstad in November 2004 and renamed “Normand Vibran” and “Normand Produce”, respectively.
In October 2005, we bought back the “Normand Produce”, and she is still on the same contract to Total UK as from delivery. It was only natural to rename the vessel to her original name, “Troms Falcon”.
In December 2005, we took delivery of “Troms Fjord” from Flekkefjord Slipp og Maskinfabrikk A/S. The vessel is a VS 470 PSV, presently on a term contract to Peterson Supplylink BV.
In October 2005, we entered into a management agreement with Sanko Ship Management Co. Ltd., and we presently have three of their offshore vessels on management contracts: the Singapore-built 8000 BHP AHTS “Jaya Valiant II” and “Jaya Valiant III”, currently on contracts in Nigeria and Sakalin. The third vessel, the DSV “Sanko Angel”, is still under construction in China, and will be added to our fleet at the end of 2006. At present, we have a team of two Superintendents in China to assure delivery according to specification.
Troms Offshore AS has gained considerable experience in operating in harsh environments during Barents drilling campaigns, and our skill in Arctic operations is on a very high level as we have had the polar research vessel “Lance” on management since 1995. The vessel is owned by the Norwegian Polar Research Institute and operates in both the Arctic and Antarctic. In addition to “Lance”, we also operate the Norwegian Coast Guard vessel “Tromsø” in the Barents Region.
